Are you passionate about making a difference in your community and beyond? The African Scholars Program - a dedicated track within the Global Scholarship Program run by SOS Children’s Villages worldwide - may be the perfect opportunity for you.
Offered in partnership with the Hertie School, this program provides world-class educational opportunities in public policy and governance for talented students from across Africa.
Launched in 2025, the program awards scholarships to up to six new scholars per year from various African countries. These scholarships cover the full cost of a two-year master’s degree in one of the following programs:
Students benefit from the Hertie School’s renowned faculty, an international learning environment, the university’s institutional network, and excellent research infrastructure.
As part of the comprehensive support model provided by the Global Scholarship Program, scholars also receive leadership training and mentoring. Professional networks in governance, development, and international politics complement the academic curriculum, while internships at international organizations, government agencies, or research institutions provide valuable practical experience. Participation in conferences and professional forums allows scholars to raise their profiles and build important contacts.
To be eligible for a scholarship to take part in the African Scholars Program, candidates must meet the following criteria:
Facing economic challenges and belonging to a group underrepresented in similar opportunities.
Being a national of one of the following African countries: Benin, Botswana, Burundi, Cape Verde, Côte d'Ivoire, Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Gambia, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Kenya, Liberia, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Somaliland, South Sudan, Sudan, Uganda, or Zambia.
Demonstrating a strong commitment to social impact and community leadership.
Showing eagerness to grow as future leaders in public policy, international affairs, or data science for the common good.
Embodying values such as collaboration, perseverance, and optimism.
